19th Century Cork Sutton Mariners, Sailing Ships and Crews

Captain David Davies submitted two birth places; Cork was added in smaller print: perhaps his birthplace was Newport and his residence, Cork? Newport to Cork was one of the busiest coastal trade routes for Cork ships in the nineteenth century; it would not be surprising to find mariner families moving residences between these two ports.

Captain John Towell served on so many ships that he added the later vessels at the bottom of a second sheet.

Apprentice John Spillane would captain the Mary Macklin in 1839 and obtain his Master Certificate in 1851.
