Fate of ship:

Wrecked in Milford Haven, 27 October 1878 (IMNCL). Lloyd’s Register provides little information on this schooner, which was likely to have been named for George Brown, the Kinsale shipbuilder. She, like the Ellen Dawson , was identified as one of the better-known vessels of the Kinsale fleet: see Union and T Crowley (Thuillier). Captain John Dawson would have been related to Dan Dawson of Scilly Kinsale, the father of Mary and Anne Dawson; the sisters married Henry and William Brown, the shipbuilders of Passage West. Captain William Veale was the Master of Pomona of Youghal 1827 – 30. He continued to captain Cork vessels after George Brown but maintained a Youghal address when obtaining his Master Certificate in 1850. Another Dungarvan Veale, John Veale b.1834/35, would be Mate on George Sutton in 1880.

Additional information:

Captain Timothy McNamarra would next captain Nancy Dawson 1847 – 54. He acquired his Master Certificate in 1858.

Captain Rielly Sr would be captain of Crowley’s Ellen Dawson with Mate Reilly Jr 1882 – 4. Despite age variations in IMNCL reports, they were the same duo.

Mate Blackburn previously served on Alarm of Cork 1847 – 8 and next would serve on Emerald of Kinsale 1849 – 50, on both
