Additional information:

This ship (Reg: 29/123, 8344) was engaged in Mediterranean trade and owned by Robert Lander of Kinsale until 1882 (CLIP). Captain Andrew Copley was the A Copley described in Lloyd’s Register and previously served on Forester and Friends of Liberty. Captain J Clancy in Lloyd’s was likely an older member of Jeremiah Clancy’s family. Captain Jeremiah Clancy was previously captain of George Brown . He would later, like many sea captains, become a shipowner. Captain John Twohig was father to the future captains Mate Daniel Twohig and Apprentice John Twohig. John Twohig (b.1838, Cork) presents another typical example of an apprentice serving under his father at 13-14 years old. This younger Captain John Twohig would be best man at the wedding on 20 October 1868 at St Pat’s, Cork of Elizabeth McCarthy to Abraham George Sutton (b.1842, Cork), the son and business partner of Captain George Sutton (b.1804, Clonakilty). *IMNCL; CLIP; UK M&M; Lloyd’s; Sutton Family History.
