Mate James McCarthy has birthdates 1838-43 in IMNCL records. He served on a few Sutton ships and again as the Mate under Captain Randel McCarthy on the Ellen Sutton . Seaman (future Captain) Daniel Looney who held a Mate Certificate, would later replace Captain John Murphy (b.1850), who died of natural causes (IMNCL), as Master of S arsfield in 1872.
