19th Century Cork Sutton Mariners, Sailing Ships and Crews

Seaman:

1870 John Brien b.1848 (Courtmacsherry)*

Fate of ship:

Just three trips between Newport and Courtmacsherry in the second half of 1894, before being laid up 30 November 1894 at Courtmacsherry (IMNCL) and removed from the Register in 1895 (BT110/31/2).

Additional information:

Both owners Michael and Francis Driscoll provided Courtmacsherry residences.

Fame traded extensively between Courtmacsherry and Newport, but also occasionally served Kinsale, Bandon, Clonakilty and Castletownbere. Inbound mostly with coals. Outbound in ballast, but sometimes with pitwood for the Welsh mines. Captain Michael Driscoll would take a voyage on Abraham Sutton’s Alexandrina Victoria in 1867 and as Mate on Sutton’s Evenus in 1873.

Captain and Mate Francis Driscoll would have been the same; birthdate variability on IMNCL records demonstrated again.
