MS. letter from Tadhg Barry, H.M. Prison [Uisk] to 'A Liam, a seana chara',
Liam de Róiste, Cork. Level: Item Extent: 2pp Part of:
U271/G/010/D
Scope and Content: Wishes him good luck (in the parliamentary election). He is '...disappointed that the super patriots could not get no better champions than masters Tilson and Willie O'Connor, whose eagerness to shine as imperialists was only equalled by their objection to donning the Khaki, both [traitors] being subsequently excelled by their anxiety to subscribe to the anti- conscription funds... they'd shed all other blood but not their own. The parliamentary party are gone very low indeed when these be their Gods. Refers to Tilson dismissing his employees at the start of the war and employing boys to do their work, 'such is what now represents what Willie Redmond and Gussie Roche stood for a few years ago'. He thinks JJ (Walsh) should challenge Mayor O'Connor to a score of bouls.
He is 'fairly well'. The Sermon Plot is an effort to tire us into submitting to a 'Kilmainham' Treaty. 'We all know who'll tire first. I must be considered amongst the absent voters.
They celebrated the Manchester Martyrs anniversary with an oration and concert. He suspects some of his letters are being seized by the 'Huns here'.
'Let every friend vote as if Dillon and Devlin themselves were candidates. Give them both what they gave Parnell and show to the world that Rebel Cork is Rebel Still. Daring as ever. Fearless as ever as recent events show and true as ever to the ideals of the Manchester Martyrs, An Irish Republic'. 'God bless the rescuers of McNeilus'.
