Scope and Content: Encloses Capt. Kenworthy’s letter. Complains about prison conditions for [Countess Markievicz]. ‘…with neither light nor air a rhinoceros would not be well, leave alone a highly strung, delicate lady….it is her…indomitable magnificent superb spirit of courage that keeps her up… they only put her in because she gave evidence of great importance to the American delegates- They hope to kill her before the trial comes on….her superb courage will keep her up to the last minute, and then all of a sudden she will sink rapidly; they will release her when she is at the point of death, as they did poor O’Brien in this town’. Asks him to take the Kenworthy’s letter up to show the Countess. And ‘…it is to be hoped [War Minister] MacPherson will be frightened now and let her out at once….’
