Scope and Content: Letter on headed paper, ‘Elected Government of the Republic of Ireland (American Delegation), Office of the President, 1045 Munsey Building, Washington D.C.’. In this letter Fawsitt sets out his opposition to de Valera’s intention to appoint Fawsitt to the post of representative of the Irish government in the United States. Requests that he remain in post as consul in New York or be allowed to return to Ireland to co-operate with the Director of Trade and Commerce.

Scope and Content: Document titled ‘Memo for Mr Fawsitt, from President’ (Eamon de Valera). The memo sets out twelve points or instructions for Fawsitt in organising committees of the American Commission on Irish Independence. This document sets out de Valera’s vision for the composition of the committees: ‘these committees to be as weighty as possible, having on them prominent non-Catholics, women, Labor representatives etc... one representative of the Protestant Friends should be secured in every local committee of the proposed permanent skeleton of the American Commission’. The document also points to tensions with the Friends of Irish Freedom Organisation, stating, there is a ‘danger of re-instating men in whom experience has taught us we cannot repose confidence, no matter how favorable their outward expressions are’. The bond drive under O’Mara and the use of journals to publicise the Atrocity Commission are also mentioned.
