Industrial Development Association); I.P. Carroll of A & P Tea Co. Jersey City, USA; Liam Cronin, Dripsey Woolen Mills, Cork; Liam de Roiste, T.D., Cork; and D. Downing, P.O., Castletownbere, Cork. The letters to Liam de Roiste hint at events in London during the treaty negotiations with comments such as ‘the enemy is unwilling to grant us fiscal freedom’ (19 October 1921), and complaints of a ‘vendetta’ in Cork against Fawsitt and ‘his’ advisors in London. Fawsitt writes: ‘Donal og (Donal O’Callaghan, Lord Mayor of Cork) is so narrow and prejudiced that he will believe anything uttered to my discredit and spread the news’ (p.17). Also mentioned in this letter are the prospects of the Americans renting oil bunkering facilities in Cork harbour, presumably at Haulbowline. A single item from 12 December 1923 stands alone in the book. This is a letter from Fawsitt written from St Vincents Private Hospital, Dublin, to E.P. Dowling, Rock Lodge, Blackrock Road, Cork. The letter concerns transfer of 200 shares from Fawsitt to Dowling. The shares are in the ‘I. International Trading Corp. Ltd’.
