Scope and Content: Series of records and papers relating to Fawsitt’s direct and indirect involvement in industrial development and trade, including his work on behalf of trading companies and representative bodies, publications by him, and his research into trade matters and the resultant lectures, articles, and other writings he produced. The papers mainly date from the period after his dismissal from the public service and before the completion of his legal studies. This was a period in which he was sometimes in financial difficulties and in which he strove to maintain his family and his reputation and public profile. This is reflected intermittently in correspondence occurring in this section, eg, in PR81/1/5/A/03, which contains many references to family and to career and political developments in Fawsitt’s correspondence with Mrs Mary Slattery, Irish Industries Depot, New York, and Mr JM McGrath, New York. PR81/1/5/A relates to companies, organisations, and bodies for whom Fawsitt did work, assisted in their objectives, or was otherwise involved with. These include cultural bodies seeking an industrial perspective. PR81/1/5/B concerns articles, lectures, broadcasts, research, and other writings by Fawsitt. This sub- series includes sets of articles on Irish industry published in Australia and elsewhere, scripts for a series of radio broadcasts, and copies of articles published in The Financial Times and elsewhere. PR81/5/C contains a number of small files relating to Fawsitt’s brief period of employment as a trade mark inspector with the Irish Industrial Development Association, and related papers regarding trade marks.
