Scope and Content: Letter in reply to Woods letter of apology regarding the forgotten gift of a bottle of whiskey. Fawsitt remarks that he tried to call on Woods but was running late for his ship to Ireland. Fawsitt remarks: ‘my typist tells me that it is just like me to be rushing at the last moment’.
Scope and Content: Letter marked ‘private’ in which Fawsitt informs Woods that he is no longer employed in the Irish civil service and recounting the background to his dismissal. Fawsitt remarks upon elements of the masonic ‘British’ who are making it impossible for him to gain re-employment. He states that he has been rejected for two jobs as a result. Fawsitt believes these same individuals are ‘whispering abroad that I am and have been all along an irregular!... Every Briton and mason the country over will exult at my overthrow and defeat’. Fawsitt is concerned at meeting re-payments on the mortgage for his house and fears having to rent the property for $1,000 per month. The property is worth about $20,000 he believes but would only sell currently for $15,000. Fawsitt is willing to temporarily work again in New York for a year or two if Woods has any suggestions. Fawsitt laments the fact a man’s house must reflect his social standing.
