Scope and Content: Dail Eireann, Orders of the Day for 5 January 1922. Contains motion to approve Anglo-Irish Treaty put forward by Arthur Griffith, T.D. Second motion by president Eamon de Valera proposing a new treaty be made with Great Britain. Post-script note remarks: ‘complete text of the Proposals to be put into the hands of the Delegates before the Motion is moved’.

Scope and Content: Letter in hand of Diarmaid Fawsitt, addressed ‘my dear Kelly’. Appears to be copy of reply to letter received from D.J.Kelly, New York, 14 December 1921 (catalogue reference PR81/1/3/E/01). Fawsitt remarks upon the state of the country and the general feeling during the treaty debates: ‘in an Dail - during a deadly dull speech by a Mayo deputy...to live in Ireland these days is to forget that any other country in the world exists’. States that ‘we know not nor do we care’ for American opinion on the treaty, asking ‘were your people loyal to Ireland or even loyal to America you would await Ireland’s decision before pre-judging our case’. Fawsitt also laments that Eamon de Valera ‘has confused the issue by interjecting his threat of resignation before a decision was come to’. Note. letter has been dated to 1922, original states 1921. Letter re-dated per context of writing in Dail Eireann during treaty debates.

Speakers include Eamon de Valera, Erskine Childers, and Michael Collins. Subjects include discussion around freedom of the press, in particular the Freeman’s Journal. ‘Griffith - press must be free to say what it pleases about us... De Valera - am for fullest freedom of press’.

A small list of account details are queried, including £0.11.6 for ‘paper sent to Mr Barton, London, 17/10/21’.
