1. 31 Jan 1845 MS. note from Marquis of Landsdowne to Richard Dowden acknowledging letter. He will present the petition to the House of Lords from the Presbyterian congregation [in Cork]. He can give no opinion on the Treasury Department agreeing to the arrangements described. (2pp plus envelope) 2. nd [Feb-Mar 1845] As above, Berkeley Square, to Dowden presenting his compliments and informing him that he had no opportunity to see Lord John Russell [Leader of the Opposition], but he wrote to Russell and noted Father Mathew's letter. Russell replied that he will see Mr. Dowden as soon as he is able to fix a time for it. (3pp) 3. nd [?1845] As above, to Dowden, Morley's Hotel, Trafalgar Square, London. He presents compliments but is unable to assist regarding Father Mathew as he has no connection with the Board of Treasury. He can request Lord John Russell to see him to see if an exception could be made. (3pp plus envelope) 4. 21 Jul 1849 MS. letter from M.[?Arnold], London to Dowden. Acknowledges letter to Marquis of Landsdowne. He will communicate the request to Sir George Grey, who accompanies the Queen, but due to the short time that the Queen will remain at Cork, the number of visits will be very limited. (2pp)

MS. letter from Thomas Laurent (formerly of Kilworth, county Cork), City of Mexico, to Richard Dowden, Cork. Regards failure of the potato crop in Ireland, causing famine. He sends on by steamer a basket of fine potatoes for seed and a box of 'nature/aboriginal' potato to the Chamber of Commerce, also some plants and wheat.
