1840 Handbill/prospectus advertising regular emigration packets to Australia (Syndey and Port Philip) direct from Cork, every month in 1841. Under management of Carter and Bonus and John Gore, Robert Brooke etc. of London. Sole agent in Cork is Mr. John Besnard Jun. Describes packet ships as 'first class'. Cork is selected as the final point of departure owing to the superior advantages of its harbour, and passengers from England, Scotland etc. can join at Cork using steamers from Plymouth, Bristol, Liverpool, Glasgow, etc. With description of fares, accommodation and food provided for cabin, intermediate and steerage passengers including those granted Free Passage. Refers to bounty emigrants paying £1 for utensils and bed linen. Medical comforts include wine, brandy, porter, lemon juice, etc, under the control of the ship's surgeon. A cow is also carried on board for the benefit of infants and young children. Free passage is available to limited numbers in steerage for young married agricultural labourers, shepherds, carpenters, smiths, masons, etc. as well as female domestic and farm servants. Description of various certificates and references required. With testimonials concerning safe arrival of passengers, availability of employment in Australia, resolutions of New South Wales council, etc. (3pp)
