Title:
Promotions and Company History
Level: series Extent: 20 files Scope and Content:
Files, albums, and correspondence regarding special cruises, promotional and advertising material, and Company History correspondence and other items. Apart from the small file on the Milford route, 1906, the series begins with a large file on special cruises offered by the Company, 1932-38. There are also albums containing advertising matter, mainly from the 1930s. Files on Company history are placed in this series as most of this material was assembled for promotional or commemorative purposes. The final file present is a set of receipts for goods issued by the Cork Steam Ship Company, predecessor to the City of Cork Steam Packet Co Ltd. These date from 1859-69 and are among the few remaining records of this company whose fleet included the Sirius. These are placed here as not fitting readily elsewhere in the collection. The series documents the Company's history, and its promotion of itself, and sheds light on the leisure activities and interests of tourists and travellers, of the 1930s in particular.
