Pilots' Certificates

Level: file Extent: 3 items Scope and Content: Certificates of fitness to pilot a vessel, issued by the Corporation of Trinity House of Deptford Stround. Includes: (1) Certificate issued to Henry Hore, 16 July 1857. The certificate is in respect of the vessel ‘Blarney’, and others similar, of the City of Cork Steam Packet Company, and relates to the port of Plymouth. Attached are amendments adding the vessels ‘Cormorant’ (26 Feb 1894), and ‘Ardmore’(14 Mar 1910). On the reverse of the certificate is a physical description of the pilot. (2) Certificate i ssued to George Clarke, 21 Apr 1876. The certificate is in respect of the vessel ‘Dodo’, and others similar, of the City of Cork Steam Packet Company, and relates to Southampton’s waterways. Attached are amendments adding the vessels ‘Belle’ (9 Aug 1876) and ‘Innisfallen’ (29 Sep 1896). (3) Certificate issued to Ussher Robert Boate, 22 Apr 1877. The certificate is in respect of the vessel ‘Lee’, and others similar, of the City of Cork Steam Packet Company, and relates to the route from Neyland to St Ann’s Head. Attached is an amendment adding the vessel ‘Glanmire’ (2 Mar 1888).

Each item notes the name, capacity, and address of the seaman, and includes the date and signature. Rules are printed on the reverse. The seamen are as follows: James Coomb; James Regan; Joseph Antonio; Oscar Andreas; Frank Millar; and Charles Millar. The address in all cases is Gracey’s Alley.
