Sales book, 1 April 1910 to 7 May 1920. This volume records all sales and related accounts, including expenditure. In addition to noting sales of Irish and imported Archer and Spratt Archer barley and of by-products, it also

notes cash sales to AGS, and includes summary information on various accounts. These include the grain account, the coal accounts, and the farm account. Deposits, sales, returns, and net sales are tallied. Malt shipments are also recorded. The book records sales to the Congested Districts Board, February-March 1912. Also noted are potato sales in 1914.

Sales book, 1 September 1920 to 23 December 1930. Similar to the above. Sales of by-products recorded include coal and barley dust, skimmings, screenings, malt combings, kiln dust, and grinding barley. Transfer of

stock also noted.

B609/2/I/6 Seed barley sales, 20 February 1919 to 27 April 1926. An untitled final column notes sending of barley sacks by rail. Sales totals are tallied at intervals. Present towards the back of the book is a note on ‘Distribution of Spratt Archer 37/6 Seed barley (the property of A. Guinness Son & Co. Ltd.) 1926’.

Seed barley sales, January 1927 to May 1936. Similar to the above, this volume notes separately sales of commercial and pedigree barley. AGS distribution note for 1927 present.

Sales book, 25 January 1943 to 15 March 1947. In addition to seed barley sales, this volume records seed barley deposits, insurance returns, coal account, seed oat purchases, and by-product sales.

Seed, oats, and barley sales and purchases book, 18 March 1947 to 3 January 1952. This volume note barley transfers (to AGS and others), by- product sales, malt shipments and combings, coal account, and seed oat

and barley sales and purchases. Indexed.

B609/2/I/10 Seed Barley and Oats Sales Books, February 1952 to April 1954

B609/2/I/11 Seed barley sales, February 1957 to April 1971. A smaller format book, noting quantities of seed and seed feeding barley sold on a daily basis. From April 1958 sales of different varieties of barley also noted. Totals of cash and cheques received also recorded. The book records quantities and totals only, not names and details of farmers and customers. Pages are stamped with JHB stamp.
