The remaining items in this series are books and files of letters from JHB to AGS. The level of description given here for these files is not as detailed as for letters from AGS, as the content is similar, very many items being replies. The first four items are bound books of letters. All other items are files. The letters are in date order, but numbered to link them with a Subject Index, which precedes the letterbooks and most of the files. Subjects include the following: Accounts; Agreements; Barley; Barley Experiments; Census of Production; Certificates and Stock; Coal; Conference (with DoA); Feeding Stuffs; General; ‘Grand Tour’; Road Census; Sacks; Kiln-drying; Seed Barley; Samples; Shipments; Smut; Storage; Weather; Yield, and others. Each new index is taken as the start of a new file, with each generally covering a year’s letters. The letterbook index covers the whole of each volume. Subjects can vary and change. Letters on files are generally stamped with JHB seal and initialled by the Director or the Secretary. B609/1/A/60 Letterbook of letters to AGS, October 1917 to October 1920. This and succeeding letterbooks (B609/1/A/61-63) are partially indexed. All contain carbon copies of letters on light paper. Very careful handling is required.
