A letter of 7 October gives a copy of a letter sent to local Yield Survey enumerators. B609/1/A/45 Letters from AGS, September 1961 to August 1962. A letter of 27 May 1962 encloses a list of malting equipment from AGS Cook’s Lane Maltings for disposal. A letter of 16 May, addressed to A Tobin, Ballinacurra, encloses a note on how screening tests are to be conducted. A letter of 29 March concerns insurance of seed stocks, in light of damage by flooding to seeds issued to Mr Farrell, Youghal, by JHB, for distribution to growers. It is noted that premia insuring against flooding, in ‘Cork at least, would be extremely high’. Against that, dressed seed rendered unfit is worthless, and so would be a dead loss. Many letters from January-February 1962 relate to allocations of stock and foundation seed. Present dated 2 February is copy of a reply sent to a Miss M Cogan, Newmarket, seeking a barley contract. Her letter also present. A letter of 26 January gives permission for supply of Hunter barley to Murphy’s of Cork (brewers) ‘provided of course that you do not run anybody else short’. A letter of 19 December 1961 concerning bulk delivery of malt states that AGS propose to discontinue taking malt in sacks. A letter of 18 December, headed ‘Irish Speaking Barley’, concerns an application for a malting contract received from Gaedhealachas Teoranta, Trabolgan, Co Cork. DR Tristram thinks it ‘a very good idea to give them something…from the point of view of good-will’. A letter of 22 September concerns an outbreak of Fusarium infection in wheat. Registrations and Seed Sales for 1963. A letter of 10 April forwards a DoA press notice regarding grants towards the cost of providing new grain stores to be completed in time for the 1963 harvest. A letter of 14 February concerns ‘Boreham Warrior’ seed barley. A personal letter from DR Tristram to Mrs West concerns his departure from the Malt Dept and his continuing presence on the Board of JHB. A letter of 23 January regarding barley contracts states that a fixed price of 53 shillings per barrel will be paid under contracts with AGS, Smithwick, Harp Lager, Cherry, MacArdle Moore, Perry, and IME. A letter of 31 December 1962 encloses an application for a contract from William Murphy, College Road, Cork. A letter of 26 November encloses an outline for a gibberellic acid steeping experiment. A letter of 17 October concerns a review of policy on rejected barley. A letter of 25 September forwards an application for contract from the Irish Refining Company, Whitegate, Co Cork.
