B609/7/D/1 Barley Experiments, 1901-13. The file is largely made up of scientific reports and tables of information, with related correspondence between DoA, JHB, and AGS. Includes Season Reports; Plans of Equipment and related correspondence with suppliers; Ground Plans and Planting Scheme for Rosehill Plots, 1908-11; Charleston Nursery Plan, 1908; Draft Version of the Report on the Irish Barley Experiments, 1901-07; Geological Report on the Barley District of Greenore, Co Louth, by HC Sheringham (December 1902); ‘Experiments in Barley-growing; General Instructions’ (1901); Correspondence with AGS regarding completion of the Report on Irish Barley Experiments, and testing of samples (1904-07). B609/7/D/2 Barley and Experiments File, 1920-27 (1904-07; 1911-18). File largely consisting of records regarding barley cultivations at the Cereal Station, 1920-27. Some correspondence with AGS regarding barley sales and distribution, and coal purchases, 1904-07, also present. Other items present include the following: Note on Beaven’s 145 compared with other varieties (1911); List of maltsters in Dublin, and in principal towns and Northern Ireland (1904); Draft Report for the 1916 season; letters from the scientific maltings at Warminster (1913-19); Copy of examination papers, June 1923, Institute of Malting Diploma. B609/7/D/3 Barley Experiments, c1901-15. Reports, notes, and correspondence relating to scientific work, mainly at the Cereal Station, not previously formally grouped into a file. Includes reports on experimental cultivations in 1901, 1915-16, and 1923. Also includes an AGS letter dated 7 January 1907 proposing the creation of an experimental farm ‘in any isolated barley growing district, such as the Cloyne area of Co Cork’. B609/7/D/4 Details of Experiments, 1904-28. File containing some correspondence, but mainly made up of reports, tables, and notes relating to experiments. Includes lists of barley reserved for seed, and barley offered and refused by farmers, 1905-22. Also present are barley weight dockets (1914), yield per acre details and weekly receipts (1914), outline scheme of barley cultivation (1906), report on the barley-growing district round Bandon, Co Cork and the possibility of transferring its barley for malting in Dublin or Ballinacurra (1906), barley report for week ended 29 September 1924, and blank printed notices of conditions attached to the sale of Spratt- Archer barley [no date].
