19th Century Cork Sutton Mariners, Sailing Ships and Crews

Youghal mariner family that I have found. The mariner Prendergasts contributed to the Youghal merchant marine service throughout the nineteenth century as master mariners and owners of ships (see Wild Hunter ). Captain James Prendergast indicates no certification and for multiple reasons does not appear to be the Captain James Prendergast (b.1846, Youghal) who obtained his Master Certificate in 1871.

Seaman (future Captain) Michael Healy would later captain the salvaged S tirlingshire in 1865.
