19th Century Cork Sutton Mariners, Sailing Ships and Crews

Captain Healy would next serve as master on the final voyage of Neptune of Cork to the Gulf of St Laurence.

Mate Daniel Sargent provided a Passage West address when obtaining his Mate Certificate in 1855. He went on to captain Pim’s brig Zephyr 1857 – 60. Mate Patrick Spillane (b.1833, Crosshaven) was boatswain for a voyage. Mate Arthur Herbert Sargent earned his Master Certificate in 1870 and moved to Cork steamships. Mate Jeremiah Murphy earned his Master Certificate in 1868. He subsequently served as Mate on the 734t barque Arthur White of Cork with Captain David Murphy in transatlantic trade 1871 – 3. Mate Thomas Gilmore Keane earned his Master Certificate in 1874. Mate Maurice Cogan earned his Master Certificate in 1877. Seaman Robert Warner earned his Master Certificate in 1871. Seaman Daniel Looney next served on Abraham Sutton’s Jessie , Perilla and Evenus , earned his Mate Certificate in 1867 and would then captain the Abraham Sutton ships Iris , Petrel and Sarsfield in the early 1870s. CLIP indicates Eliza Keith in operation until 1885 with James Edwin Pim as the owner. The above-named crew certainly proved to be high-achieving mariners.
