Additional information:

Coastal trade 1865-6. Transatlantic to St John in 1873.

Captain Edmond McCarthy was serving here between captaincies on Abraham Sutton’s Jessie and Harriet. Captain Robert Jeffers on this Sutton ship Egmont is not to be confused with Captain Robert Jeffers (b.1844, Kinsale). They both sailed on Sutton ships. Captain Daniel Twohig was, I believe, a son of Captain John Twohig (b.1804, Kinsale) and a brother of Captain John Twohig (b.1838, Cork); they were closely associated with the Clonakilty Sutton mariners. Mate John Twohig was likely to be related to these Kinsale/Cork Twohigs. Captain John Bease also sailed on the Sutton-owned Alexandrina Victoria, Eagle and Mary Anne. Mate Andrew Barry who previously served on Alexandrina Victoria would drown at sea on the Shields in 1879 with Captain John Twohig (b.1838, Cork) (see S hields ). *IMNCL; CLIP; Lloyd’s; UK M&M; Sutton Family History.
