Additional information:

This Quebec trader was probably named after the French explorer Samuel de Champlain, who established the first European settlement near Quebec City in 1608 and discovered Lake Champlain between New York, Vermont and Quebec province, in 1609 (Appendix 6: US Naval History). Quebec remains a beautiful and imposing old walled port city several hundred miles up the great St Lawrence River and situated on a commanding hillside, where the broad river transiently narrows to a width of just a half mile. Captain George Havelock would continue to serve on Cork ships and was captain of Zephyr of Cork when applying for his Master Certificate in 1850. Captain Mills (#7521) is also to be found as master of the Champlain and Pons Aelii , with slight variations in BT112 record. Mate (future Captain) William Errington claimed a start date not quite consistent with Lloyd’s ship construction date. Errington would later be master of Bob Logic and S wan.
