This ship voyaged on transatlantic and European routes. This ship (Reg: 52546), built in the German Baltic area, bore the foreign name Frederick Bruning (CLIP) and IMNCL records document a highly international crew. Captain James Herbert was from Wiscasset, Maine which had once been a shipbuilding centre and the busiest American Seaport north of Boston.

Mate William Burke earned his Master Certificate in 1869 and moved from sail to Cork steam ships.

CLIP documents the ownership of James & Richard Walsh by James Walsh of Queenstown until 1876.
