Fate of ship:

‘The 194t brig Fanny Palm er of Youghal was wrecked on the Arklow Bank on 29-11-1872. Captain Guest and his crew were rescued by an Arklow boat’ (Bourke). The captain was, as is clear from IMNCL papers, Captain James Prendergast. The same papers confirm that the vessel was abandoned on 29 November 1872. She was on a voyage from Kingstown, Co Dublin to Cardiff, Glamorgan (List of Shipwrecks – Wiki). This ship traded with Miramichi, British North America and the USA in the 1860s. Construction information obtained from the ‘Unseaworthy Ship Commission’ (CLIP). Captain Thomas Fitzgerald on renewing his Master Certificate in 1880 indicated his prior ownership and captaincy of Fanny Palmer and Mary Hounsell of Youghal and residence on Grattan St, Youghal. *IMNCL; CLIP; UK M&M; Bourke, Shipwrecks of the Irish Coast.
