Fate of ship:

Wrecked at Bideford, 9 September 1885. The crew was saved (IMNCL). Ellen Dawson was a better-known vessel of the Kinsale fleet, along with George Brown, Hannah and Marion (Thuiller). The owners were from Kinsale and the ship was trading mainly between Kinsale and the Bristol Channel (Cardiff, Newport and Lydney). Thomas Crowley was a son-in-law of Joseph Hosford and would establish the successful Kinsale Shipping Co. in 1881 (see the T Crowley ). Captain Peter Moye, Mate George Moye and Seaman Edward Moye do not appear in UK M&M records. Peter and George Moye’s ages vary by several years in the IMNCL records. Captain Timothy Rielly (b.1824) and Mate Timothy Rielly (b.1856) previously served in similar roles with slightly different birthdates on George Brown . They also served in earlier times together on Elizabeth of Kinsale. Seaman (future Captain) Denis Driscoll (b.1838) would marry Anna Sutton, daughter of Capt. Robert Sutton (b.1826/9, Kinsale), and granddaughter of Capt. Nathaniel Sutton (b.1794, Clonakilty), on 1 April 1880 at St Pat’s Cork.
