MS. Letter from Terence MacSwiney, 5 Ardan Mhuire, Cork, to ‘A Liam a
chara’, Liam de Róiste. Level: Item Extent: 10pp Part of:
U271/B/006
Scope and Content: He has in manuscript form the material to make a small volume of verse, which he hopes to publish shortly. Says Cork will print but not publish and he has broken with Dublin, so he has decided to publish himself to found an agency called “Risen Gaedheal Press” with a nominal headquarters 13 Great George’s St. Asks de Róiste for permission to use the address, says the agency could develop either to produce books or a journal, or both and explains in detail why action is necessary. Says he speaks “for and cling to ‘no compromise’ as a motto. I know it is the essence of strength, virtue, truth. It clears the atmosphere.” He ‘would have nothing to do with half measures.’ Refers to putting ‘fresh life’ into the Celtic Literary Society. His letter is in strict confidence but de Róiste may discuss it with Concobhar. ‘We have fought many a good fight side by side, if we have not always seen eye to eye. And I hope we will yet share in many a victory together.’
