MS. letter from Dan C. Barry, [Brother of Tadhg Barry] 12 Maynard St., Cape

Town, South Africa, to Liam de Róiste, Grand Parade, Cork. Level: Item Extent: 3pp Part of: U271/H/2/011/B Scope and Content:

Reply to De Róiste’s letter of sympathy on ‘poor Tadhg’s death’ (death of Tadhg Barry). 'It is indeed sad to think that Almighty God decreed that he should fall on the Eve of peace'. Tadhg was continually urging him or his children to come back to Erin. He wishes he could have his children educated in Ireland. The grounding here is, 'comparatively, not what I received in dear old Blarney Lane'. Describes education with the Marist Brothers, teachers are mainly Frenchmen with poor English. Requests if he could get a 'billeting' or employment in Ireland, explaining he is a finger print expert. Comments on South African newspapers views on Ireland and the Treaty.
