Also, newsclipping (27 June 1919) with text of letter from de Róiste, to the editor of the Cork Constitution concerning Madame Markievicz whom he interviewed in Cork Jail, on the accusation of her use of inciteful language to refer to the police. 'Her view is that the Castle administration evidently wishes to stir up a pogrom against the police and then propagate the falsehood that it is the leaders of the Republican party...who are responsible for the pogrom...'. (1p) Also, republican leaflet (1919) 'The Treatment of Political Prisoners in Cork Jail' [Cork County Gaol] concerning 47 prisoners 'being tortured and broken...by the tools of English rule in Ireland'. Refers to demand for the same conditions as the agreement after the hunger strikes in Mountjoy and the death of Thomas Ashe, a prisoners strike on 22 January when the RIC 'that most necessary and efficient section of the British Army of Occupation' were called in', similar to the action in Belfast Prison. 'The men were placed in solitary confinement in an old disused part of the Prison...many are broken in health', 6 are seriously Ill, and one is in the mental asylum. 'They who torture these helpless men are protected by a rigid censorship...How long is it to last?'. (1p)
