Scope and Content: Printed publication titled ‘Dail Eireann Official Correspondence Relating to the Peace Negotiations, June - September 1921’. Includes preliminary correspondence between President de Valera and Prime Minister Lloyd George, and correspondence sent by de Valera to the Unionists, as well as letters with Lloyd George negotiating peace or the military truce. The letter to unionists, or the political minority as phrased by de Valera, is addressed to Sir James Craig, the Earl of Midleton, Sir Maurice E. Dockrell, Sir Robert H. Woods, and Mr Andrew Jameson.

Scope and Content: Report referring to visit to Belfast on 26 December 1921 at request of the Minister of Finance (Michael Collins) during the Christmas recess of Dail Eireann. Fawsitt refers to meeting, amongst others, R.V. Williams, Joshua Cunningham, Sam Kelly, and the Bishop of Down and Connor (Joseph MacRory). Fawsitt reports: ‘the proceedings of An Dail had sobered down somewhat their keenness on immediate action towards unity with the south’. Specifically mentioned is the negative impact of remarks by Deputy McEntee about Ulster nationalists.

Scope and Content: Letter forwarding letters addressed to Fawsitt (no longer present). The letter refers also to Dowdall’s position on trade during the treaty negotiations. He refers to the paper on the subject produced by Liam (de Roiste) and argues that ‘I hold the same [views as Liam] but would not break on trade unless the other side’s proposals were absurdly injurious to us’.

Scope and Content: This particular sub-series of papers includes official British government and Dail Eireann papers and publications produced from the period of the truce up to the signing of the treaty. It appears to contain all those papers relating to the Anglo-Irish Treaty not filed by Fawsitt with the memoranda on trade (ref. PR81/1/3/B). Also present are letters received by Fawsitt dating to the period of the treaty negotiations and the period afterwards but preceding the Dail Eireann ratification. An official copy of the Anglo-Irish treaty, signed by R. Barton is present (ref. PR81/1/3/D/07). Related material from this period is contained elsewhere in a volume of outgoing copy correspondence from Fawsitt (ref. PR81/1/2/B/18). These file divisions reflect Fawsitt’s own system of arrangement wherever this has survived.

Scope and Content: Printed publication, ‘Souvenir Programme. Reception to the Irish Republican Delegation. By the Irish-Ireland Societies in London’. Includes a programme of music performances for the event held Wednesday 26 October 1921 at the Albert Hall in London. The programme includes musicians or speakers B. Barrett and Agnes Treacy amongst others. Also present is a section with brief notes on each of the Irish delegates at the treaty negotiations with small black and white photographs of Arthur Griffith, Michael Collins, Robert C. Barton, George Gavan Duffy, and E.J. Duggan. Beside the portrait of Barton is a handwritten note, ‘what a mistake this is???’.

Also attached is a copy of a letter from General Smuts, Savoy Hotel, London, to Eamon de Valera concerning his position on Ulster and on dominion status.
