Scope and Content: File of papers concerning Diarmaid Fawsitt’s efforts to renew his passport in advance of travel to London for the Anglo-Irish treaty negotiations. Fawsitt requested also that his permission to travel be extended to cover not only the United States of America but also a number of western European nations. The letters from the British passport authorities include a refusal to grant permission for travel to these nations.

Scope and Content: Letters are present from Ernest Blythe and Robert Barton regarding Fawsitt’s appointment as Technical Secretary to Robert Barton, Minister of Economic Affairs. Also present in this file is a set of correspondence between Fawsitt and the British passport authorities in respect of his application for renewal of his passport. The British passport from this period, with photograph and travel stamp endorsements, is also present.

Scope and Content: Passport issued by the British government to J.L. Fawsitt, with photograph, travel related stamps and notes regarding endorsements for travel. These include a stamp of the United States of America vice consul at Cobh (Queenstown) dated 11 September 1919, and 16 February 1920. Other stamps include Foreign Office endorsements permitting ‘travelling to the United States of America only’ (25 October 1921). Envelope enclosure also present, addressed to St Petroc, Stillorgan, Dublin.

Scope and Content: Letter advising Fawsitt of date of meeting of the Fish Conference organised for the 22 September. Signed in Irish, Earnan de Blaghd.

Subject of letter is headed ‘Ministry of Economic Affairs’, and offers Fawsitt position as Technical Secretary to Barton in his capacity as Minister of Economic Affairs. Letter also states that if he accepts position Fawsitt will be appointed a member of the Economic Commission. Terms of salary offered at £50 per month. The duration of the position is noted as ‘for such period as the projected Conference (peace conference) with the British Representatives regarding the future relations of Ireland & Great Britain may last’.
