Scope and Content: Letter on official Lord Mayor of Cork headed paper, apparently thanking Fawsitt for his own letter of congratulations on election to the position of Lord Mayor, Cork city. The letter states: ‘I did all I could to escape the job, but the fates were against me. It is really a tough job, but we are getting thro fairly successfully’. MacCurtain thanks Fawsitt for his offer to help in any way possible in New York.

Scope and Content: Fragile. Letter addressed to ‘Mr Fawsitt’ from Eamon de Valera, requesting Fawsitt’s presence in Washington on 12 December 1919: ‘you are the only expert we have - your evidence will be an advertisement of the fact we have a consul here’. The letter also requests Fawsitt to prepare two statements, one on the consular system and its role in prospering trade between Ireland and America, and the second, a statement with ‘concrete examples’ as proof England has destroyed competitive Irish trade and markets.
