item

Scope and Content: Unsigned (copy) letter from (Fawsitt) to Martin Lawlor, communicating a detailed order [not present] for 235 best ash hurleys - ‘championship match sticks’ - and 24 balls. Fawsitt expresses his displeasure at Lawlor’s neglect in executing an order placed by Mrs Slattery last year, particularly ‘having introduced the business originally’. He takes it the present order includes sticks already paid for not delivered or to be replaced as faulty.

Scope and Content: Letter from Slattery to Fawsitt in reply to his of 30 January. She states that if he publishes the pamphlets she will take 50 of each. She is ‘sorry to hear about your position’ but hopes ‘things will straighten themselves out’ after his final exam. She is not surprised that Irish Industrial [Association] has no funds, as she thinks Irish manufacturers have eyes ‘closed to their own interest’. She has had no word of the hurleys yet.

He hopes to complete the order by next weekend, and apologises to Fawsitt and Irish Industries for the delay. A typescript copy of the letter is also present.

He assures Fawsitt that he greatly appreciates orders from the Depot, adding ‘I like to keep our exiles supplied with hurleys to keep up the old game’. Envelope and ts copy of letter also present.
