Scope and Content: Unsigned letter to Mrs Mary Slattery [from Fawsitt], suggesting that the bank account of the Irish Industries Depot may be better accommodated by the American Trust Company of Broadway, than by her present banker. It is added that she is at liberty to advance this recommendation to the Committee of Management of the Depot. It is advised that in first calling the bank, she should ask for Assistant Secretary Mr O.S. Kelly.

Scope and Content: Fragment of a letter, surviving as one page, in the hand of Donal Cronin, Cork Industrial Development Association, evidently writing to Diarmaid Fawsitt. The letter refers to Cronin’s growing experience working for the C.I.D.A. since Fawsitt has departed. Also mentioned is the difficulty M.O.H. (Michael O’Herlihy) is experiencing in serving (as secretary) of two bodies at the same time (C.I.D.A. and Cork Chamber of Commerce).

Scope and Content: Letter from the Irish Consular Service to ‘Dear Sirs’, American Trust Co, marked for the attention of Mr O.S. Kelly. It is explained that the Gaelic League conducts a retail store in New York devoted to the sale of Irish-made goods, profits on which are used for educational purposes in Ireland. It is added that the store is managed by Mrs M Slattery, supervised by a managing committee including Gertrude B Kelly (chairman), D.J. Kelly (secretary), and Professor O’Byrne (treasurer). The writer [Fawsitt] advises that he has suggested to Mrs Slattery that the store’s bank account be transferred to American Trust Co. It is added that the acting consul at the Irish Consulate, D.J. Scope and Content: File of correspondence, mainly between Diarmuid Fawsitt and Mrs Mary Slattery, Irish Industries Depot, New York; with related correspondence with Daniel J McGrath, New York, and with the Gaelic League, regarding proposed sale of bookstore/depot (Gaelic League Stores) to Mrs Slattery; and later correspondence concerning Fawsitt’s work in securing merchandise on behalf of Mrs Slattery, including with Martin Lawlor, Freshford, Co Kilkenny, regarding supply of Irish hurley for sale in the US. Fawsitt was personally friendly with Mrs Slattery, and their correspondence makes much incidental reference to mutual friends, family matters, Fawsitt’s career difficulties, and politics in Ireland and America.

Scope and Content: (Copy) letter from Sean O’Murthuile, acknowledging hers of 19 January with cheque for books, but explaining that the Coiste [finance committee of the Gaelic League] ‘are somewhat dissatisfied with the whole position regarding the stores, and in view of the fact that no financial benefits have accrued from the stores for a long time’. The Coiste has taken the decision to dispose of the stores, and has placed the sale with the League’s solicitor, Mr E.J. Duggan.

He notes Father Shanley may also attend.
