considering dispensing with Fawsitt. Cronin laments that the I.I.D.A. are not taking appropriate steps to fully promote the I.T.M (Irish Trade Mark). Cronin states that purchasers of children’s shoes from the Hanover Shoe Company have been asking to see the trade mark on the company’s goods. If not for this Cronin believes the owner of the shoe company would never have heard of the Irish trade mark. Refers to J.J. (J.J. Walsh) as a ‘political “has been” ‘. A recent meeting of J.J. Walsh’s has met with a ‘flippant’ response from the crowd.

Scope and Content: Letter referring to the surprise decision at a recent council meeting (of the Irish Industrial Development Association), evidently concerning the fate of Fawsitt’s employment with the association. M.O’H (Michael O’Herlihy) has spoken to the ‘senator’ (James Charles Dowdall), asking him to look after Fawsitt’s interests. Cronin hopes Dowdall has the power to rescind the resolution of the association, and asks Fawsitt why the flour millers representatives at the association are ‘unfriendly’ towards Fawsitt.

Scope and Content: Letter advising that Miss Somers is calling an All Ireland Industrial Conference next month and has requested suggestions. The Irish Industrial Development Association is to submit a report on the Irish Trade Mark. Cronin asks Fawsitt if the Industrial and Commercial Property (Protection) bill is in operation and if so does it require English firms to register in the Irish Free State any design or trade mark shown on their goods.

Scope and Content: Letter thanking Fawsitt for sending particulars of the new Industrial and Commercial Property Act. Cronin is surprised the D.I.D.A. (Dublin Industrial Development Association) is solely organising the All Ireland Industrial Conference. Cronin doubts the Cork association will have any representative present at the conference. Passing reference also made to a tender for University College Cork buildings, awarded to a Mr Connolly of Limerick.

Scope and Content: Letter referring to personal matters, Cronin is glad to hear Diarmuid and Cathleen have recovered from a serious illness. Cronin has been to see a clerk of the church to forward a certificate to Fawsitt. Cronin also makes a passing comment to new lighting in Cork city, the place is looking ‘very gay these days - gayer perhaps at night when all the coloured lights are ablaze’.

Scope and Content: Letter referring to Fawsitt’s ‘news’, evidently the decision of the Irish Industrial Development Association (I.I.D.A) regarding Fawsitt’s employment with same. M.O’H (M. O’Herlihy) ‘thinks any action by T.P.D. (Thomas Patrick Dowdall) or the Senator (James Charles Dowdall) in approaching any of the ministers directly would not be helpful’. Cronin instead recommends a number of friends or contacts he has that he believes may be able to assist in Fawsitt’s case with the I.I.D.A. He states that he has influence on the Cork Executive of the local Cumann na nGaedheal political party. He states Barry Egan, David Curtin, or R.S. Andrews may be able to assist Fawsitt. Referring to Anthony, Cronin states: ‘I think too the Govt Party has a more or less friendly understanding with the Labour Party’.
