Cronin says there is much interest in Fawsitt’s letter stating the apparent lack of interest in Ireland in the United States. Referring to a meeting of Cork Industrial Development Association, Cronin regrets the invitation extended to Sir John Scott who has made inflammatory statements regarding the issue of direct trading and the Irish International Trading Corporation. Cronin also refers to the establishment of a new organisation, the Cork Progressive Association which he does not hold in high regard. Cronin notes that one of the chief promoters of the new association has suggested putting Fawsitt’s name forward for nomination at the next Dail election. They may also ask ‘our friend Liam’ to go forward (Liam de Roiste). Cumann na nGaedheal have also been organising in the city and have asked Cronin to join however he plans not to, saying: ‘I’m feeling too sick of everything to join this or any other organisation’. A postscript to the letter mentions a general strike expected in coming days, the result of proposal by employers to cut workers’ wages.
