Scope and Content: Letter to advise Fawsitt that he has recently seen President Cosgrave and further that he advised Cosgrave of Fawsitt’s view to put the matter of his reinstatement to the civil service before an impartial tribunal. McGrath states that no definitive answer from Cosgrave was provided, and ‘the impression I gained was not too favourable’.

Scope and Content: Letter advising Fawsitt cannot be appointed to civil service posts overseas until his application for reinstatement to the civil service has been accepted. The minister has agreed however to register Fawsitt’s name in the Department of External Affairs as having applying for service abroad.

Scope and Content: Letter enclosing a copy of the independent newspaper (no longer attached) regarding reinstatement of officials of the First Dail. Fawsitt believes there is an increasing ‘general spirt of amity and amnesty’, however he fears his own application has been ‘consigned to the official w.p. basket’.

Scope and Content: Short news article speculating that Mr Campbell intends to resign his post as Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. The article states J.H. Ferguson, the Assistant Secretary, is expected to fill the position. A black and white newspaper quality photograph of Campbell forms part of the article.

Scope and Content: Small set of correspondence between P.J. McGilligan and Diarmaid Fawsitt regarding Fawsitt’s request for reinstatement in the civil service, and in particular in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

Scope and Content: Letter signed by Diarmaid Fawsitt outlining that in the event of the resignation of the present Secretary to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Fawsitt is ‘ready and willing to serve the state’. Fawsitt also states he was withheld that same post in the first place, despite it being promised to him by President Griffith (Arthur Griffith) and General Collins (Michael Collins).

Scope and Content: Letter advising that Fawsitt has read reports in newspapers that the government will be appointing civil servants to posts in Paris, Berlin and elsewhere. Fawsitt reminds McGilligan that he was ‘comandeered’ by the Department of Foreign Affairs of the First Dail and sent to New York for two years as Consul- General in page 9. If it is true that Mr Lindsay Crawford is to be transferred to the High Commission at Ottawa then he would be pleased to serve again in his former role in New York.
