Scope and Content: Full copy of The Gael dated 23 February 1924, with article titled: ‘Was Keating of the I.R.A. Victimised? We want the truth!’. . The top of the paper contains note: ‘see pages 1 2 9’. The case refers to a contract for coal whereby Dublin Corporation secured an order of 5,000 tonnes from the company of Emil Franck of New York in May 1921 via their Irish agent, Thomas Keating of Arklow. The article states that Fawsitt, in his role as ‘Irish Republican Consul in New York City’ intervened and cancelled the order. Keating has since been arrested and The Gael wishes to seek compensation for his losses of £500. A call is made for Fawsitt to explain why Keating was slighted.
