The article is not credited, however, Fawsitt confirms in his letter to Osmond Esmonde that the writer is John Devoy. Later, writing to his lawyer, Fawsitt states the writer of the article is Lindsay Crawford (ref. PR81/1/4/D/07/02). The article paints a negative portrait of Fawsitt, accusing him of being a ‘pigmy politician’ and of attempting to spread propaganda in the United States that would encourage the downfall of Cosgrave’s government in the pending elections to Dail Eireann. The writer bitterly refers to Fawsitt as ‘the henchman of De Valera’ and states that after De Valera and Dr McCartan he is the person most responsible for causing division amongst Irish-American sentiments when he influenced Archbishop Mannix on their trip to the Pacific coast in 1920. The writer goes on to accuse Fawsitt of masquerading as an envoy on his current trip.
