Scope and Content: Small collection of papers including brief minutes of Haulbowline Advisory Committee, established by the Irish government in March 1922 to decide the future use of the Haulbowline dockyard following transfer from the British authorities. A newspaper copy includes a photograph with Diarmaid Fawsitt and others from the advisory committee landing on the island in Cork harbour (ref. PR81/1/4/B/11). Also present are travel expenses claims for trips made by Fawsitt in his capacity as a civil servant to London, Cork, and Belfast. These confirm dates of Fawsitt’s travel and suggest a close working relationship with Michael Collins at this time.

Scope and Content: 1. Typescript minutes of first meeting of Haulbowline Advisory Committee, held at Cork Harbour Commissioners office on 8 March 1922. Mr J.L Fawsitt (Diarmaid Fawsitt) and F.J. Daly chaired committee to plan for future use of Haulbowline dockyard, Cobh, Co. Cork and ensure retention of jobs at dockyard. Members attending committee include the Lord Mayor of Cork, and the Chairman of Cobh Urban District Council, Michael Hennessy. Other committee members include T.P. Dowdall and Liam de Roiste. The meeting refers to plans for the dockyard after the British Admiralty departure planned for 31 March 1922. (3 pages) 2. Typescript minutes or report of meeting of Haulbowline Advisory Committee following visit to the dockyards on 9 March 1922. Proposes dockyard be kept open for scrapping of old war vessels, ship or marine vessel repairs, ship construction and army ordnance work. (3 copies of 1 page). 3. Report dated 2 March 1922 on current and future use of Haulbowline dockyard proposed by Irishman William A. Conal, of 67 Main Street, Rutherglen, Glasgow, Scotland. Conal states he was once a prisoner on the island and is familiar with its buildings and docks. Includes suggestion of building a bridge from the island to the mainland. (2 sheets)
