Scope and Content: Letter regretting deaths of Cathal Brugha and Harry Boland. Referring to Boland, McGuire states he had ‘iron courage’ and ‘dauntless physical courage’. Mrs McGuire fears for lives of Eamon de Valera and Diarmaid Fawsitt. McGuire states he spent three hours persuading a number of men against travelling to Ireland to kill Michael Collins and Richard Mulcahy in revenge for Brugha and Boland’s deaths. Fawsitt comments that he has in front of him a letter Collins has sent just before leaving Dublin heading south. Fawsitt forwards a copy of this letter to McGuire (no longer enclosed). Letter also refers to failure of Dr McCartan’s to pass motion in the Dail in favour of a truce.

Scope and Content: Letter regarding American Tariff Bill. McGuire states ‘a large majority of the American people at present favour shutting out foreign goods if the same can be made here’. The U.S senate meanwhile have an amendment on Irish mackerel fixing the duty at one cent per pound weight.
