Scope and Content: Letter, possibly from Diarmaid Fawsitt, Ministry of Ecomic Affairs, including text of two telegrams received at home from ‘James’ (James K. McGuire, New York). The first telegram is a warning to Collins that the Eastern Division of the I.R.B (Irish Republican Brotherhood) has ordered Collins death. The second telegram requests the previous message be discarded as ‘all well’. The sender is forwarding these to Collins not as a warning on his life but rather to show ‘our friends in the states are becoming somewhat panicky and alarmed on account of... exaggerated stories’ in the United States press.

Scope and Content: 1. Newspaper cutting of article from ‘Prov. Journal’ (?), with headline ‘Collins Attacks De Valera’s Policy - Cork Meeting Marred by Free Fights and Frequent Firing of Shots’. The report refers to address given by Collins in support of the Anglo-Irish Treaty in Cork on 12 March 1922. The article includes reference to anti-treaty demonstrations protesting Collins address in Cork. Published 13 March 1922. 2. Newspaper cutting of photograph from unidentified newspaper. Photograph is a black and white group image of Diarmaid Fawsitt with Commandment Cooney, Michael Collins T.D., P. O’Keeffe T.D., Fathers Leo and Edmond O.F.M., and Commandment McKeown. The group are assembled in the garden of the monastery at the Church of St Francis, Liberty Street, Cork. The photograph is captioned ‘An Interesting Group’. Scope and Content: Full edition of the Freeman’s Journal, with articles including reports on attack on Michael Collins on his return from Naas at the Vaughan Hotel, and Arthur Griffith’s visit to Sligo. Smaller articles include reference to mobs and fires in Catholic areas of Belfast. The cover of the newspaper, titled ‘Trade’ features a full-page drawing of a worker and employee with the caption: ‘where do we come in?’.

Scope and Content: Letter referring to the boycott of the business of W.J. O’Sullivan (William J. O’Sullivan), draper, Grand Parade, and former high sheriff of Cork. O’Sullivan has requested Dowdall to inform Fawsitt of the boycott and to state that he rejects the grounds of the boycott. Dowdall states the boycott was due to ‘over rated’ charges against O’Sullivan for infringing the ‘Belfast barrier’ (Belfast boycott). Dowdall also comments on Fawsitt’s speech in Cork last Saturday night ‘your speech was a.1 & your voice was the only one which could be heard at any distance’. Dowdall believes on the side of the Treaty, ‘the will of the majority must prevail’.

Scope and Content: Letter formally reporting selection of five pro-Treaty candidates for County Dublin to be included in the national panel for the forthcoming election to Dail Eireann. Fawsitt reports that he attended and presided over the Special County Dublin Pro-Treaty Convention. The names put forward referred to are George Gavan Duffy, T.D., Desmond Fitzgerald, T.D., James O’Dwyer T.D., J. Derham T.D., and Peadar O’Kelly. The latter candidate is reported as winning 68 votes against 30 votes for the candidate M.J. O’Reilly.
