but it is to be lamented that there is no record of Proceedings of the Council from the 21 st of August 1643 to the 1 st October 1690. There is no question that such Records were in existence, as appears by Smith’s History of Cork, where they are frequently referred to, but the early Records appear to have been much mutilated. Ex: Gr: there appears no entry from 3 rd March 1711 to 8 th AprilApril 1712 (Vol. 2. fo. 11). And further on (fo. 19) appears an entry 2 nd February1712. Showing that the leaves must have been taken out, and, to a certain extent, the destruction of the Records. And this occurs frequently in the early Books.
