“in a Silver Box to perpetuate our grateful approbation of his pious exertions in promoting the Peace and Order of his Country at the moment of menaced Invasion”. (1796). (Note under above) This is the first Roman Catholic Clergyman appearing on the Council Books to have been admitted a Freeman, and, with the Exception of the Right Revd. John Murphy, D.D. the present (1846) Roman Catholic Bishop of Cork, the only one ever admitted, so far as appears by the Council Books. Earl of, now (1846) Marquiss of Normanby. Lord Lieut. (1835).
