Cork Coopers Society Minute Book, 7 June 1883. A record relating to a cooperage display at the 1883 Cork Industrial Exhibition. Page 91 shows the companies for whom the different coopers worked: these included Arnott's, Beamish and Crawford, Lane’s and Murphy’s breweries, the Watercourse and North Mall distilleries and Jennings Mineral Water manufactory. The Cork Coopers Society represented highly skilled craftsmen who, in many ways, were the elite of workers. Coopers were much in demand in the 18th and 19th centuries, making many types of wooden barrels for storing produce such as butter, stout, whiskey, salted meat and even gunpowder.(CCCA U218/A/1 Cork Coopers Society), 7 June 1883.
