Brewing & Distilling

Cork Porter Brewery Cash Book, 1793 In 1791 William Beamish and William Crawford bought the lease of a brewery and maltings in Cremer’s Square off South Main Street. They began porter production in 1792 and were highly successful: Beamish & Crawford’s Cork Porter Brewery was the largest brewery in Ireland until overtaken by Guinness in 1833. The brewery is still in existence. (CCCA U18 Beamish & Crawford)
