Provisions Trade
Butter Market Weigh House Return, 1847 This weekly return from Cork Weigh House shows an active trade despite the ravages of the Great Famine then affecting the country. A public weigh house was built in the Shandon area, on the north side of the city, in the 18th century and soon dominated the butter trade. Butter was weighed and inspected there, while there was also a trade in hides and skins. (CCCA U401/C42-51 Cork Butter Market)
