Irish Clearing House, Minutes

The Clearing House was a body on which Irish railway and passenger and sea freight companies were represented, and which facilitated customers by allowing them to buy a single ticket from a single company for a full journey, instead of having to buy separate tickets for different legs of the journey involving different companies. The participating companies contributed to the expenses of the clearing house, and also agreed arrangements for distribution of income. The present file contains minutes of meetings of accountants of participating companies, usually at the Clearing Houses offices at 5 Kildare St, Dublin. Related correspondence and reports are also present. These include reports on allocation of expenses between parties, and on groups of traffic between companies, and a return of clearing house and conference expenses of the Cork Company for 1924.A number of reports and returns, mainly for 1924, have been placed at the back of the file.
