Level: series Extent: 21 items Scope and Content: Series documenting the Company's relations with other organisations, particularly railway organisations involved in the through carriage of goods between Britain and Ireland. The Ireland and England Traffic Conference was a committee of representatives of interested parties charged ‘to consider the system of dealing with Irish Provision Traffic consigned to Sender’s order, to Stations in England’. The committee met under this name until 31 July 1874, when it was proposed that a distinct South of Ireland Conference be formed. These bodies were succeeded, in the Irish Free State, by the Irish Railway Clearing House. The Company also had direct dealings with the Great Southern and Western Railway companies. In addition, the series contain files on dealings with Cork Harbour Commissioners, regarding harbour bills and other matters. Meetings were generally held at railway stations or associated clearing houses. The railway material is an important record of the cross channel element of railway and maritime history.
